Menagerie Show
"If you take care of birds, you take care of most of the environment problems in the world."
This quote by biologist Dr Thomas Lovejoy is a key to the diversity of the planet and is a great starting point for the new works by Elodie Holmes. The Brooding Birds and the Perched Birds, blown and hot sculpted glass, will be joined by coyotes, rabbits, hedgehogs and even a walrus in the Menagerie show at Liquid Light Glass Thursday, July 10th from 5-7 pm. The glass animal show celebrates some of the world's creatures in conjunction with the International Folk Art Market showcasing art from around the globe.
The other animal creators are Cia Thorne and Jaira Stewart.
Jaira's sculptures play with perspective and spark thoughts of change. The critters have been sandblasted and then coated with powdered metal oxides such as yellow ochre or manganese to bring out characteristics found in each animal. She also truly has a menagerie of other animals that show off her sculpting skills. Cia Thorne has two walrus forms that defy what one thinks can be done in glass.
